We know Los Angeles will inevitably get its own football team again, it’s only a matter of time. But everyone’s asking, “What will the Los Angeles football team be named?” Here are a few suggestions for team names so we can hit the ground running when we get ourselves a new franchise. Go LA!
1The Los Angeles Waves
A reflection of our beautiful beaches and famous surf heritage, this name can also suggest the dangerous side of our eventual football team: We will crush our opponents like the endless tides. And an ocean-themed color palette would look beautiful on the players.
2The Los Angeles Dodge Rams
A nod to our once great home team, the Los Angeles Rams (1946-1994), but also an expression of our immense car culture. Everybody drives in LA! You know it! I know it! Maybe Dodge would feel inclined to sponsor the team.
3The Los Angeles Dodge Ram Chargers
A nod to our home team of one season, the Los Angeles Chargers (1960), but also another expression of our legendary car culture. I mean, everybody drives in LA! Are you hearing this, Dodge? Fork up the dough. Also, how cool would some blazing tire tracks or a Dodge Charger (sweet car, right?) look on the helmets?
4The Los Angeles All-Stars
I don’t think this one needs explaining, but our city is full of celebrities (stars) and we’d be the BEST FOOTBALL TEAM AROUND (all-stars)!! I imagine a glittering, shiny gloss for the helmets, with a dazzling star, something that would really pop on television.
5The Los Angeles Sunrays
Our city is also known for its fabled perfect weather and sunshine 365 days a year. Let’s make other cities jealous! We could put bright sun balls on the helmets and diffusive beams of light cascading across the players’ costumes, from their shoulder pads down to their matching high socks. We’ll BURN our opponents with our heated play!
6The LA Almonds
Because we grow so many delicious almonds! We provide this great country with most of its produce. Let’s be proud of that fact! Additionally we could be called the LA Avocados. Then we could use that tropical spectrum of colors in our team design (can you just picture a bright chartreuse?). And we could shower the audience in almonds when our team scores a football goal!
7The Los Angeles Leopards
Why do the Cincinnati Bengals get to have all of the fun? They definitely have the coolest costumes in football right now. But we could put some chic leopard spots on our helmets; use a tasteful amount of gold highlights over mean-looking black. We wouldn’t be messed with! We’re natural hunters! We’d claw the competition with our fashionable look and equally cool leopard logo.
8Bonus Name: The Los Angeles Dodgers
Because in LA you need to drive! And if you’re going to drive, why not drive a Dodge? Please give me some money, Dodge. I’m a real Dodger-head! And I need the money for design school! Why is design school so expensive? I don’t know! Because the powers that be have decided that that’s how much design school is worth.
And I know that’s already the name of LA’s baseball team, but have you seen their motif? That Dodger blue, a minimalist logo of a baseball, that timeless script – Who wouldn’t want to adopt that classic aesthetic style? We could be a unified front with our sports teams. WE COULD MAKE OUR DODGERS BEAUTIFUL.
