Dear Editor,
I’ve been in Los Angeles for a two years now, and I’m not sure if I like it. I’ve got an ok job, but what I really want is to be an actor. I can’t seem to find any traction. I’ve met with a few agents that said they would represent someone like me, but I need a few more credits first. How am I supposed to get credits if I don’t have an agent!? I feel like I don’t know what to do anymore. Should I get out of LA now or stick it out a little longer? And if I stay, what should I do?
Sincerely,
Loathing Los Angeles
Dear Loathing Los Angeles,
I know that LA can be frustrating, and whether or not you should stay is a question a lot of people ask themselves. The best advice I can give you is, if you’re my type, yes move out of Los Angeles.
Do you have glasses? Are you white, medium build, brown-ish blonde hair? Are you kind of funny? If you said yes to all these questions, just skip town. Back off, Ok? I’m trying to get some work here and I don’t need you crowding me.
Do you write sometimes and act sometimes and direct sometimes? Leave. There’s no sense in you trying to compete with me. I’ve been trying to make it for longer than you, and just cause you’re younger doesn’t mean you can come take my spot on the ladder. So go back to whatever Podunk town your from, join the local theatre company, and just forget you ever came to Los Angeles, got it dweeb?
As far as these agents you met with. What kind of credits are they looking for? I’ve been in several BuzzFeed videos, written for Dance Moms, and I’m currently unrepresented. If you’d put us in contact, I’d appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Stephen Perlstein
